Real Madrid plan to trigger Erling Haaland’s release clause next summer – reports

Spanish giants Real Madrid are planning to make a move for Erling Haaland in the summer of 2024. The Los Blancos plan to trigger his release clause when it comes to play next summer.

Los Blancos were tracking the Norwegian star prior to his move from Borussia Dortmund to Man City in 2021 but opted against making a formal offer.

According to sources, Real Madrid could pay a release clause of £174m for the Norwegian striker, once it gets activated next summer.

They added, that Haaland’s agent Rafaela Pimenta has insisted she wants to ensure her client remains in control of his own destiny but insisted a recent trip to Madrid was not Haaland related.

The Spanish club are chasing Kylian Mbappe, whose deal at PSG will expire in the summer. He will be available on a free transfer. There are reports that Real Madrid plans to walk away from the free contract talks.

Erling Haaland has been the best striker on the planet since joining Pep Guardiola’s side. He led Manchester City to a treble win in the 2022-23 season by scoring more than 50 goals and averaging more than a goal per match.

The Norwegian finished second in the Ballon d’Or 2023 standing behind Lionel Messi. Haaland has scored 47 goals in 46 Premier League games. He has also registered 15 UEFA Champions League goals in 17 appearances for his current team.

Real Madrid are without a proper number ‘9’ for the current season. Karim Benzema’s departure in the summer to Al Ittihad opened the door for a new striker. Madrid signed Joselu and needs a more prolific striker.

Haaland’s departure is not certain, but Madrid are likely to make their move for the Norwegian striker.
