Neymar suffers ACL injury in Brazil’s 0-2 defeat to Uruguay, lengthy period on the sidelines to come

Tuesday’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying loss to Uruguay for Brazil saw Neymar leave the pitch with a knee injury while in tears. He afterwards was seen exiting the arena on crutches.

In the 44th minute of the match at Centenario Stadium, the 31-year-old attacker slipped and collapsed while running. He was quickly mobbed by players from both teams as he grasped his left knee.

Teammate Richarlison took Neymar’s position as he was taken away on a trolley while holding both of his hands to his face.

Though initially no information was known regarding the severity of the injury, with the Brazilian medical staff yet to perform their scans and other protocol, Neymar’s club Al Hilal has since confirmed that the Brazilian no.10 has torn both his ACL and Meniscus.

In layman terms, that is pretty much as bad as injuries get for a player, and this adds to a hugely unlucky streak for Neymar that has seen him miss almost 150 games for both club and country since he made the move from Barcelona to PSG.

Neymar has since been active on Social media offering an update to fans about his condition. “This moment is proving to be probably the most difficult of my entire career, but I will do all I can to come back stronger for my club and my country. All the honor and all the glory to God, always. No matter what, I have faith,” he said, via Instagram.
