Manchester City eye Eberechi Eze after Paqueta’s deal collapsed

Eberechi Eze is being considered by Manchester City after an agreement to acquire Lucas Paqueta fell through.

According to Mail Sport, City have been keeping an eye on the Crystal Palace midfielder for the past six months after elite scouts were blown away by his command of matches for the Eagles.

Given the stunning betting claims made against Paqueta, who was prepared to leave West Ham United for over £85 million, the Treble champions continue to search for a midfielder.

Following a standout two years at Selhurst Park, Eberechi Eze was awarded his first England cap by Gareth Southgate in June and has since drawn attention from around the Premier League.

It has been claimed by city officials all summer that they have only kept a watchful eye on the 25-year-old; nevertheless, it is unclear whether the Paqueta developments will cause them to formalise their involvement.

As the transfer window is slated to close the following week, Crystal Palace expects to demand in the region of £70 million from any prospective suitors.

However, Eberechi Eze’s current deal only has two years left, so any potential offer will probably put Palace’s determination to the test.

Kevin De Bruyne won’t be available until the new year due to injury; therefore, Pep Guardiola, who is recovering in Barcelona after back surgery, is looking for another player.

Riyad Mahrez also left, while City considered Palace’s Michael Olise earlier in the transfer season before selecting Rennes’ Jeremy Doku.

Doku, 21, is undergoing medical testing at the City Football Academy in preparation for his £55 million signing from France, which will give Guardiola more speed and dexterity in attacking situations.
