Liverpool and Manchester City share spoils in roller-coaster draw as Arsenal climb to top of Premier League table with 10 games to go
In the most important match of the Premier League season thus far, Liverpool and Manchester City drew 1-1 on Sunday, separating the points. John Stones, defender for Manchester City, scored the game’s first goal off a well-executed corner kick by Kevin de Bruyne.
In the second half, Liverpool rallied heroically and equalised through a penalty kick by Alexis Mac Allister. Although neither team would have preferred the outcome going into the match, Arsenal’s victory against Brentford on Saturday kept the Premier League title race wide open.
After winning 2-1 against Brentford the previous night, Arsenal were able to hold the top spot in the league rankings thanks to the draw. Despite having the same number of points, Mikel Arteta’s team leads by seven goals on goal differential to take the top spot.
With Mohamed Salah only able to play as a replacement and Ibrahima Konate joining their list of injuries, Klopp’s team was second-best in the first half but controlled the second half, mostly due to Luis Diaz’s several missed opportunities.
In the 89th minute, City replacement Jeremy Doku nearly added another twist to an already exciting game as his low shot struck the inside of the post.
However, the two teams were unable to split the point, with Arsenal now leading the standings on goal differential over second-place Liverpool and City behind by one point in third.
