Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was offered an ‘astronomical offer’ to join Saudi club Al Hilal in the January transfer window. However, reports suggest that the Portuguese rejected a move to join his former Sporting CP boss in Saudi Arabia.
Bruno Fernandes joined Manchester United from Sporting back in 2020 for around £55 million. The midfielder has since gone on to make 215 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring 71 goals along the way.
His current contract is set to run until 2026 – with the club holding an option to extend it for a further year – although they will likely look to extend his stay past this date.
However, this hasn’t stopped clubs across world football from paying attention to where his future may lie after one team reportedly made an ‘astronomical offer’ to sign the United captain during the January transfer window.
According to Record, the Portuguese playmaker turned down an offer from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal last month, after reacting negatively to the proposal due to having ‘things to do’ in Europe before the end of his playing days.
As per these reports, the precise monetary value behind this attractive offer remains undisclosed but it is highlighted that many would perceive such figures as overwhelming and undeniably alluring. Despite the initial denial, this situation involving Al Hilal’s pursuit of Bruno Fernandes is far from concluded. Reports suggest that the Saudi side intends to persist in their efforts during the forthcoming summer transfer season.
Al Hilal already have the likes of Neymar, Malcom and Aleksandar Mitrovic amongst their squad and intended to reunite Fernandes and current boss Jorge Jesus, after the pair worked together at Sporting CP.
