Indian Super League (ISL) side NorthEast United FC have parted ways with Palestine defender Yaser Hamed, the club announced through their social media handles on Sunday. The defender is currently on national duty with Palestine at the AFC Asian Cup 2023 and missed the club’s Kalinga Super Cup campaign.
Yaser Hamed was NorthEast United FC’s final foreign signing ahead of the ISL 2023-24 season. The Palestinian international was under NorthEast United’s radar for quite some time and was finally signed ahead of the current season.
Hamed fulfilled the Asian player quota for the Highlanders. He made his debut for the Highlanders in their opening ISL game against Mumbai City FC in September 2023. NEUFC lost that game 2-1 against the Islanders at home. Hamed has made eight appearances for the Highlanders during his stay with the club.
He was the second choice centre-back behind club captain and Spanish defender Michel Zobaco. And as a result, Yaser started most games from the bench. He started three matches and came on as a substitute in five games.
