Bayern Munich set to re-sign former defensive stalwart Jerome Boateng

According to Sky Germany, Jerome Boateng’s return to his former team Bayern Munich is imminent.

Jerome Boateng has avoided injuries and missed any games since leaving Lyon in the summer, and Die Rekordmeister believe he can help them out defensively. The former Bayern Munich defender is reportedly close to joining the defending winners after completing the final part of his physical.

Boateng is anticipated to participate in team practice at the Säbener Straße later on Sunday before joining the initial squad early the following week, according to Philipp Kessler. It is not yet known if the 35-year-old will sign a deal for the remainder of the season or for a period of six months.

Following a week in which all three of Bayern’s seasoned centre-backs missed the DFB-Pokal match against Preußen Münster due to injury, Thomas Tuchel and the team’s management have determined that adding another centre-back is crucial.

Additionally, it is anticipated that Tarek Buchmann will be out for the following few weeks due to a muscular issue. This indicates that Tuchel would have limited options for the middle of his defence because the club doesn’t have many talented young defenders.

Jerome Boateng played at Bayern Munich for eleven years, winning two Champions League titles, five DFB-Pokals, and nine Bundesliga championships.

Before leaving on a free transfer to come to Lyon in 2021, he made over 360 games for the team, but since leaving the French team last summer, he became a free agent.

Tuesday’s Champions League match between Bayern and Copenhagen will follow the next round of negotiations with Boateng.
