Sikkim: Indian football team’s ex-captain Bhaichung Bhutia sits in protest at police station

Legendary Indian footballer and ex-captain of the Indian football team Bhaichung Bhutia sat in protest for over six hours demanding the arrest of goons who allegedly attacked a gathering of civil society activists in Sikkim.

Padma Shri awardee Bahichung said that despite having clear video evidence, the police had not taken action.

He said that the General Secretary of the “Joint Action Council” was brutally attacked with a knife and other sharp objects. The video evidence clearly shows the attackers were active members of the ruling party Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) which is in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“BJP is the main culprit, while the SKM govt is a puppet. They shut down the entire thing. We wanted to have a rally for the people of the state. We’ll be on dharna until everyone named in FIR is arrested. Our people were beaten,” Baichung Bhutia was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.
