After three years, Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s second spell at Milan is reportedly drawing to a close and he is set to leave the club in the summer.
The 41-year-old Swedish striker has barely featured for the Rossoneri this season, making just four Serie A appearances last month after recovering from a serious knee operation. Unfortunately, a muscle injury has again forced him to the sidelines.
Ibrahimovic started his second spell with Milan in January 2020 and has proven an important figure in the dressing room, helping secure the club’s first Scudetto in over a decade last campaign.
As reported by Foot Mercato, Milan are not planning to offer Ibrahimovic a new contract, so he will leave the club when his deal expires at the end of June.
It’s still unclear whether or not the Swedish veteran will retire at the end of the season, but Monza are reportedly keen to make a move for the 41-year-old should he decide to continue playing.
Despite the numerous injury issues this season and hence a lack of gametime for the star Swede, his second stint in the Red and Black of Milan can surely be seen as more of a success than a failure by most accounts. Ibrahimovic had a hand in Delivering the Rossoneri a Serie A title after a huge wait and will have surely been an important mentor for a team like Milan bursting with a number of young talents.
